See our 2 year Topic Plans and EYFS Long Term Plans below to find out what we are learning across the curriculum. This year we are following Year A.

English

We are following Twinkl Phonics to learn our sounds and develop a range of reading and writing skills.

Children have a Phonics folder in their book bag. They will bring home Parent Information sheets on the sound they are learning and handwriting sheets to practise their letter formation. They will also bring home a mini-book which includes all the sounds they have learnt in a week and any new Tricky Words. They can keep the mini-book at home. They can also access Phonics Go games at home. Please come and ask if your child has lost their login details.

The children will also bring home a reading book once they have learnt the first 12 sounds. We use the Rhino Reader and Oxford Reading Tree reading schemes. Both schemes have been aligned so the book your child brings home is at the correct level for their Phonic ability. Books will be changed three times a week. We encourage you to look at the book at home and write in your child's reading record. We recommend reading the book several times to allow the children to gain fluency and to allow for comprehension discussions, such as what happens next? Why do you think they did that? etc.

The children will have a pencil case in their book bag with Tricky Words in. The Tricky Words follow our Twinkl Phonics scheme and new words will be added as they are covered in Phonics sessions.

In English during the Spring Term we will continue to think about letter sounds and letter formation and pencil control, sounding and blending words to read and spell using the sounds we learn in phonics. We will be writing more simple sentences and gaining more independence and confidence. We will regularly write a recount of our weekend. We will be writing letters, drawing and writing story maps, creating our own stories, making non-fiction books and writing labels and captions that link to our termly topic 'All Around Us' - this will include Transport & Buildings, People who help us, Houses & Homes, Space, Spring, Easter, Chinese New YearWe will look at many different texts linked to our topic and talk about text having meaning, the difference between fiction and non-fiction and the different parts of a non-fiction book.
