See our 2 year Topic Plans and EYFS Long Term Plans below to find out what we are learning across the curriculum. This year we are following Year A.
English
We are following Twinkl Phonics to learn our sounds and develop a range of reading and writing skills.
Children have a Phonics folder in their book bag. They will bring home Parent Information sheets on the sound they are learning and handwriting sheets to practise their letter formation. They will also bring home a mini-book which includes all the sounds they have learnt in a week and any new Tricky Words. They can keep the mini-book at home.
The children will also bring home a reading book once they have learnt the first 12 sounds. We use the Rhino Reader and Oxford Reading Tree reading schemes. Both schemes have been aligned so the book your child brings home is at the correct level for their Phonic ability. Books will be changed three times a week. We encourage you to look at the book at home and write in your child's reading record to say they have read. We recommend reading the book several times to allow the children to gain fluency and to allow for comprehension discussions such as what happens next? Why do you think they did that? etc.
The children will have a keyring attached to their book bag with Tricky Words on. The Tricky Words follow our Twinkl Phonics scheme and new words will be added as they are covered in Phonics sessions.
In English during the Autumn Term we will be thinking about letter sounds and letter formation, pencil control, writing our names independently, sounding and blending words to read and spell, writing simple sentences. We will regularly write a recount of our weekend. We will be writing invitations, recipes and lists that link to our termly topic 'Celebrations' - this will include All about me, Autumn, Harvest, Bonfire Night, Christmas, Diwali. We will look at many different texts linked to our topic and talk about text having meaning, how we hold a book, who is an author? Who is an illustrator? and look at finding Tricky Words in the books.
Maths
In Maths we follow White Rose Maths in Reception and Hamilton Trust from Year 1 onwards.
During the Autumn Term we will be looking at;
*Number recognition and formation
*Counting
*1 more and 1 less
